DAVID ANDREW BUTLER
David was born January 1893 in Tredegar to parents Thomas and Sarah Butler. He had 2 brothers, Edward & Brinley and 5 sisters, Eleanor, Sarah, Margaret, Elizabeth and Emile.

By 1901 David is now 8 and lives with his family at 23 High Street. His father is a Coal Miner (Hewer).

Davids mother, Sarah died in 1907 when she was just 42. His father Thomas re-married Louisa Blake (Webb), a widow, in July 1907. The family are still living at 23 High Street.
​
In 1911 David is 18, living at 35 high street with his Father Thomas, Stepmother Louisa and his siblings. He is now working as a Coal Miner (Hewer) as is his father Thomas.
​
David enlisted in Bargoed and served with the 1st Battalion; Welsh Guards as private 2558. By the time of enlistment he lived in Pengam. He was Killed in Action September 16th, 1916 in France and Flanders. He is remembered with honour at Thiepval Memorial, France, Pier and Face 7 D.
