Troedrhiwfuwch School
For a short time the School Board rented the Chapel Vestry for day school, at a fee of £5 annum, to accommodate the growing number of children in the village. Children were not obligated to attend but if they were enrolled a fee of 1 penny per week. A new building was erected in Lawrence Terrance and in March 1869 the school was opened by Dr Lawrence, Estate owner. It consisted of large, airy classrooms and a large school yard. Free education was offered to all children in 1891. It was closed in 1969.

School Strike
In 1938 Troedrhiwfuwch School was converted into a Primary School. This meant that some children over 11 years old would need to attend Pontlottyn School. This caused concerns as the children would need to walk 1 mile to the next village. Parents had concerns for safety and distance. Some parents refused to send their children to Pontlottyn unless transport was provided or the children were transferred to, a closer, Tirphil School. The parents of 26-28 children were summoned by Pontlottyn Magistrates. 6 weeks earlier the families went on strike as a protest against the order made by Glamorgan Education Committee. The strike lasted 7 weeks.

A Delicate Operation
With Thanks To John Davies
The original school bell has been restored. The wooden handle had deteriorated over time and had detached from the bell. To keep the original handle, John cut the base of the handle off and drilled up into the handle around 3/4 of an inch. Made the new collar bracket and pushed it up into the handle and glued it along with a long screw for extra security. He made a few collars out of hard wood such as Mahogany & Walnut. Unfortunately they kept breaking, so it has been made from soft wood. Which appears to have done the job in restoring.
