A tragedy that should never have happened the community went their separate ways but they will always be troedy people the salt of the earth.

My dad used to have a long weekend off work once a month. When l came home from school on a Friday we would make our way down home, as my parents used to say. We would arrive at auntie Jane's and uncle Sonny's house and the table would be laid with fresh ham, cheese bread etc. l used to run up to my auntie Mary's and uncle Charlie's house and stay with them overnight with my cousins Diane and Sonia. We spent time visiting relatives, l especially remember visiting my great auntie Cred.
l remember how l used to nag everyone, especially my cousin David who was younger than me to climb up the mountain with me and pick wimberries when they were in season.
I have so many lovely memories and the hospitality was unbeatable. There was so much warmth in Troedy. The first time my husband visited he was just amazed at the welcome he received. The happy memories and the sad times spent in Troedy will always stay with me.

I remember going 'back home' as my Dad would say when I was a child. We would climb into my Dad's car, the four of us children, then off we would go full of excitement to visit Aunty Jane.
As a child driving through the valley I was in awe of the huge mountains that were on either side of the car. Once we arrived at Aunty Jane's house a table greeted us with so many home made cakes and proper bread that needed cutting and butter. We thought it was a feast. After tea we were allowed to go into the back garden which was right under this huge mountain, well it seemed huge to a six year old me. Will never forget the feeling of going home.
