RICHARD JOHN BEARD

Richard John Beard was born in Troedrhiwfuwch September 1915 to Henry (Harry) John Snr & Bridget Mary Beard. He had one brother Henry John Jnr.

​

In the 1939 Census Richard is 24 and living in Twickenham, Middlesex, England with his mother, father and brother.

​

In 1942 Harry & Bridget lived in Kneller Road, Whitton, England.

​

Richard served in 1/5 Bn. Sherwood Foresters (Knotts & Derby Regiment) as Private 4756031. He died in Chungkai, Thailand as a Prisoner of War on the 15th  of November 1943, aged 28. He is buried in Chungkai War Cemetery, Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Plot VI, Row E.

 

His cause of death was listed as ‘Indigestion Inhumed’ in “British prisoners of war who died of illness in the Thailand camp List no. J.H 235”. Chungkai War Cemetery is located where Camp Chungkai stood. He is also commemorated on Whitton Soldiers And Sailors – Triptych at St Philip & James Church, Whitton, England.
